Title: Grow to the Light

Gender: Female

Location: buffalo national river

About Me:

“Like the ants that have nothing to do but dig all day, I have nothing to do but what I want and be kind and nevertheless uninfluenced by imaginary judgements, and pray for the light”-Jack kerouac, although I am pretty sensitive to his sexism this quote sums up things pretty well for me.

“If the earth was a 47 year old woman, the first single cell organism appeared when she was 11, the first dinosaur when she was 40 and we appeared 2 hours ago.”-arundhati roy A nice humbling reminder.

and my website: damselflydesigns.com

I am a person living with my family in the ozarks while we build our eco-friendly home base.
Our company damselflydesigns.com was started after we moved here from Alaska, where our family started. We sell handmade jewelry which I make using fossils as molds for my fine silver, we also sell organic cotton t shirts printed with our original saying “Grow to the Light”. My partner Dave Baer is recording a CD right now and wil have his website davebaerproject.com up soon. We are trying to embody “living art”.
But our biggest project is building our handmade hybrid local and light on our mama earth home. It is a hybrid of  rubble trench, earth bags, earth plaster, cob, and straw bales. We are building it with lots of recycled top of the line windows and local materials without sacrificing beauty and comfort and efficiency.
That is the gist of our home.
We are lucky with no building codes  and the gorgeous buffalo national river right here. When we lived in Alaska we couldn't have done this and had no idea Arkansas was such a hidden treasure. We have been rappelling off 220 foot bluffs, there is kayaking and canoeing and even elk.
We homeschool our children and have stopped giving our money to corporations(except gas which we still have to drive some but hope to remedy that some time soon with a biodiesel). when we need something(like the computer I'm typing on )we go to ebay and buy it used..hooray!
